Akihabara also known as Akihabara Electric Town (Akihabara Denki Gai), and Akiba. No matter what you call this place there is one thing that remains unchanged. That is the wondrous and amazing atmosphere and content provided in this holy land known as Akihabara.

Akihabara is all about shopping and living in the moment. Akihabara is perhaps the worlds greatest temple of “Arcade Gaming,” though granted that throughout Japan (Tokyo especially) there are loads of arcades, nothing can compare to that of Akiba. The huge towers of Sega, Taito cannot be missed when in the streets but there are also places like “Hey Arcade” which has floors upon floors of arcade gaming, ranging from classic shooting games to fighting (Like Tekken).

Now if gaming isn’t your thing, there is something unique to Japan which Akihabara is sprawling with, that is the “Maid Cafe” whether you have the fetish for cute outfits or a dream of having a cute maid, maid cafes are the place for you. Even if you have none of those desires, the maid cafe still provides a unique experience that everyone should try at least once. In these cafes the maids greet you as you enter and treat you as if you were the master of the house. There are fun games you can play, and some maid cafes even have events such as the maids singing karaoke.

As I mentioned; Akihabara is mainly a shopping district. Sprawling from every direction from the main street are even more smaller streets, within each street there are plenty of electronic stores. Every Sunday afternoon, the main street is closed off to vehicle traffic and the area becomes much similar to a flea market. People would set up stands on the street to sell of their goods. Surprisingly on Sundays during these times a lot more performances occur, therefore a Sunday afternoon is a great time to be in Akihabara.

If you are buying goods, on the main street are the larger (more corporate like) stores filled with goods that can make the little Otaku voice in you scream in happiness. Keep in mind though as you venture further from the main street into smaller more privately owned stores, you may find more unique items as well as cheaper prices (Be warned though, the further you venture the less foreign friendly it becomes, so make sure you know your Japanese or you might just be lost). Besides electronics, Akihabara also has a great number of specialty hobbyist stores, ranging from anime and manga to collectible toys to military and railway fandom.

It is needless to say that for any Otaku well anyone in general, Akihabara is a place that everyone should experience. Endless items can be found for all your niches, not to mention the interesting Maid Cafes to fulfill your desires of being a so called master. Don’t forget theres some good snacks you can find on the streets and stores and if you are going to spend a night or two in Akihabara, you may want to try out the capsule hotels that are nearby (Cheap and Interesting). See you in the Holy Land.

Naruto is a very well-known Japanese manga (comic) and anime (animation) series, both in the US and across the world. The series, both manga and anime, have created a phenomenal success throughout the world, especially amongst teens and young adults. The manga has been running since 1999 and has had up to Volume 46 as of May 1, 2009, while the anime has been airing since October 3, 2002 in Japan and is still showing on TV Tokyo as of now. The series quickly gained its fans because of its story, which the main character, Naruto Uzumaki, had to go against all the odds in order to reach his dream and to protect the bond he has with his lost best friend. So many people could relate to Naruto’s hardship in life, and to some point idolize him. The characters around him played really important parts in the story. Amongst these characters is his teacher, Hatake Kakashi. Hatake Kakashi is one of the most popular characters in Naruto series. Apart from his parts in training and teaching Naruto both physically and mentally, which played the important part in Naruto’s growth throughout the series, he became really popular amongst the fans because of his laid-back character. The fans have known him the most for his signature hobby; reading the Icha-Icha book series, the “adults” books written by Jiraiya, another teacher of Naruto, and his mysterious “face” which has always been concealed by a mask. However, when Kakashi was teased to be “dying” or “dead” by the manga author in the latest arc in the Naruto manga, it sent a somewhat panic fever amongst the fans. It was as if hearing the news of someone very close to you die. Most fans were in disbelief and some even claimed not to continue reading and following the series anymore. That just shows how much Kakashi is loved amongst Naruto fans. Whether it is true that Kakashi is “really” dead, it is best to just enjoy every Naruto episode of the anime where we can still see Kakashi well and alive, and enjoy that while we can.

Many years ago there were simple arcade games that could be played simply by pressing a few buttons on a controller. In today’s technologically advanced world there are so many ways in which a person can play their favorite arcade game: in an arcade room, on the computer, or on a game box console. Perhaps one of the most popular types of arcade games out of those options is the online arcade games that can be played.

Virtually any type of arcade game can be played on the internet: first-person shooter games, war games, action arcade games, and even team shooter arcade games. Of course, those are only a few of the types of games that can be found on the internet and there are plenty of websites that one can go to in order to feed their arcade craving.

Arcade Game History: Did you know that the two earliest coin-operated arcade video games debuted in 1971? The first, Galaxy Game, was placed at Stanford University, and the second one was called Computer Space. While Galaxy Game became popular at Stanford and was as popular as ever, Computer Space was the arcade game to be the first one that was commercially available. Since 1971, however, the arcade game industry has gone pretty far from the first two coin-operated arcade games that only had a couple of simple controls.

Traditional Arcade Games: As we all love to play them, arcade games offer a whole lot of fun! Whether you want to play puzzle or maze games or you want to control little characters, pretty much anything is possible these days in the arcade game industry. Chances are that everyone remembers some of the most popular games that started out as arcade games: Space Invaders, Pac-Man, and even Donkey Kong. On another note, Nintendo’s Mario character was first introduced in the Donkey Kong arcade game, although he was originally called “Jumpman.” All three of these games, though, not only were available for commercial use, but they were also very successful with game enthusiasts everywhere.

Transformation of Arcade Games: From starting out in these simple platform arcade games, however, the industry has come a long way. In arcade rooms today and on the internet there are all sorts of complicated maneuvers that players can use. Whether using a toy gun or a joystick to perform advanced tricks or using combination’s of button-presses to satisfy needs or character’s wants, arcade game players have had every advantage on their side. Racing games have also become very popular as arcade games today. In 1999, the racing arcade game titled Rush 2049 was released by Atari Games, which was also one of the last games to be branded with their logo.

One great advantage that arcade game enthusiasts have, however, is the presence of the internet. The internet has definitely changed the way in which arcade games can be played as well. Some arcade games, such as the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG) like The Lord of the Rings Online or Warhammer Online, have fueled many interactions between all sorts of gamers. All in all, arcade games have definitely changed dramatically over the years and continue to bring thrills and excitement to the arcade game industry so that everyone can play them no matter where they’re located.

Online games offer an equal opportunity for women of all ages to get in on the fun – and advertisers are taking notice. In fact, a study by game industry research firm DFC Intelligence reveals that advertisers spent close to $150-million to buy space on casual game sites or in the games themselves in 2006, up from $74-million in 2002.

What’s behind this shift? Advertisers recognize that the audience for casual online games is expanding to encompass all genders and all ages. Research shows that these players spend more time online and consume less traditional media. Companies that ignore this space miss out on a critical opportunity to reach their target audiences while they’re at their most engaged.

Online Games Attract Women of All Ages

Casual online game sites continue to attract an ever-growing audience of female players who can’t get enough mind-bending puzzle and strategy games. While the total female online gaming audience in August 2008 grew 27 percent versus last year to nearly 43 million visitors, the number of female gamers in the 12-24 and 55-64 age segments grew at a substantially faster rate, reports comScore in its 2008 study of online gaming audiences.

This presents a significant opportunity for advertisers, who have primarily looked to the electronic game industry as an arena to reach young males. The increased interest in online gaming among teenage girls and adult women is encouraging marketers to move more of their ad budgets into the free online gaming space. And it’s not just retail brands that are making the move. Many pharmaceutical advertisers now use online game portals as a platform for reaching female consumers.

What’s more, the online games industry is encouraging the trend by developing gaming content, portals and websites that are geared toward the interests of a female audience. This strategy ensures that the popularity of casual online games among women of all ages will continue to skyrocket in the coming years.

A Passion for Casual Online Games

Not only are millions of women playing casual online games, these women are dedicated players. Adult women are almost twice as likely as men to spend 20 hours per week playing PC games, reports the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). In fact, a survey conducted by Slingo, a digital interactive entertainment company and thought-leader in the casual games industry, reveals that nearly half of all visitors to the Slingo.com portal play casual games seven days per week. The majority of respondents admitted to playing several different games in one sitting (71.6%) and to playing a particular game more than five times in a row (61.1%).

What does this mean for advertisers? Casual online game sites are among the stickiest entertainment sites on the Web. By tapping into this highly engaged audience, advertisers can connect with consumers more easily than in other advertising platforms where the message is often tuned out.

There are also a variety of innovative ad formats available in the online games space. In addition to rich-media and conventional banner ads, some casual online game sites offer in-game advertising, contest sponsorships, or branded “advergames”. These formats further enhance advertiser brand engagement, providing a tangible return-on-investment for advertisers in comparison with traditional media buys.

The take away: A quickly growing, diverse female audience is turning to casual online game sites to connect with like minded people, make new friends and have fun. Advertisers and media planners stand to win big by purchasing space in these online game destinations.
